Development Programmes

The CEC Sport Development Pathway
At CEC Sport, players are placed into programmes based on their stage of development rather than simply their age.
Our Development Pathway is built around the CEC Sport Expectancy Model, a structured framework designed to support long-term player development through clear learning outcomes, behaviours, and principles at every stage.
Each phase focuses on the technical, tactical, physical, and psychological needs of the player at that point in their journey, ensuring they are challenged appropriately while developing the skills required for future progression.
Foundation Phase
Develop confidence, ball mastery, movement skills, and a love of the game through fun, engaging, game-based learning.
Early Development Phase
Build technical quality, decision-making, and simple collective behaviours while developing confidence in possession and out of possession.
Developing Decisions Phase
Apply technical skills under pressure, solve football problems, dominate 1v1 situations, and improve game understanding in realistic environments.
Emerging Structure Phase
Develop positional understanding, unit relationships, and team structure while maintaining strong individual quality and decision-making.
Performance Preparation Phase
Prepare players for the demands of academy and senior football through increased tactical detail, positional responsibilities, and competitive performance behaviours.
Performance Expression Phase
Enable players to consistently express their full potential within a structured team environment while meeting the physical, technical, tactical, and psychological demands of high-level football.
Application & Invitation Process
All CEC Sport programmes operate on an application and invite-only basis.
This allows our coaching staff to place players in the most appropriate development phase based on their current level, experience, learning needs, and long-term potential.
Our goal is to ensure every player trains in an environment that best supports their development while maintaining the highest possible standards across all programmes.
The Foundation Phase focuses on building confidence, ball mastery, coordination, and a love of the game. Through high-repetition, game-based activities, players develop fundamental football skills while learning to be brave on the ball, compete positively, and enjoy the learning process.

The Early Development Phase builds on individual technical skills by introducing simple decision-making and collective behaviours. Players learn how to support teammates, create space, solve football problems, and apply their skills within realistic game situations while continuing to develop confidence and creativity.

The Developing Decisions Phase is designed for players ready to apply their technical abilities under pressure. The focus shifts towards game understanding, decision-making, 1v1 dominance, transitions, and recognising the right solution at the right time. Players are challenged to become intelligent, adaptable footballers capable of influencing the game in all moments.
